Understanding Disney’s Photo Pass

Mickey, Marcy and Minnie -M3?

For years I would dread walking into one of the parks only to be ambushed politely by the Disney Photo Pass people. And most times if they asked me- I would say yes, only because they are so nice about it. So I stand there, they take a photo and then hand me a card. A card I would throw in my purse and forget about it. Why? Because I didn’t really understand it. Until now. So I thought I would share some recent Photo Pass photos taken in Walt Disney World and  tell you why you should not be afraid of this option at the Disney Parks.

Here’s how it works:

1. The first photo of the day, they will hand you a plastic card. (like a thin credit cardimage) It has a bar code and magic numbers on it.

Marcy’s Tip: Take photo of your card ASAP. If you loose the card later in the day you can easily go online and still see your photos with just the number.

2. If you see a character and Photo Pass people (look for this camera imageon the map if you want to locate all)  take your card out and hand it to them prior to your photo. They will scan the card, take your photos and hand it back to you.

Marcy’s Tip: Go crazy. If there is not a long line behind you, ask the Photo Pass people to take more than one photo. Have fun. The characters are good sports.

3. Remember you are under no obligation to buy ANYTHING. They take your photos and you can decide to buy them (or download them) later. At home. No pressure.

Marcy’s Tip: Finally you can all be in the photo. Perfect time to knock that ‘family photo’ thing off your to-do list!

4. Want to have Photo Pass people take a photo of the kids and then you want to take one with your camera? Not a problem. In most cases they will be happy to stand aside and let you shoot as well. But I have learned from experience;  the Photo Pass photos always turn out better than my own. And I consider myself a photographer!

Marcy’s Tip: Don’t forget to stick around for the new projection show in the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland (The Magic, The Memories and You). They use up to 500 Photo Pass photos taken THAT DAY in the show each night.

5. Okay you are home and have your card. Now what? You log on to Disney’s Photo Pass site and you will be asked to enter the number on the back of your Photo Pass card. Magically, all the photos you have taken will appear. You now have the option to purchase prints, photo books or gifts using the photos. You can also purchase download option for your photos*

Marcy’s Tip: You can crop and edit your photos right there on the site. And play around with the fun Disney borders. Perfect for scrapbookers or enhancing a simple frame you might have in mind.

*Prices range from $14.95 for a photo download up to $149.00 for a CD of ALL your images taken (this is a great option for families who are visiting the Parks over several days.)
